One of the more prominent ones was a class-action lawsuit filed by some of the company’s employees accusing Abercrombie & FitchDiscrimination TheInterviews for documentary features Jennifer Sheahan, Dr. Anthony Ocampo, Carla Barrientos, who were plaintiffs in the case. As per the show, after the holiday season, the employees were told that if they didn’t receive a paycheck, they were let go. JenniferWas one of those employees? AtIt is now, Carla wasn’t given a lot of hours, and the ones she did receive were at night. When she urged her manager to schedule her in the morning, she was told there weren’t many slots available. AtThis is the point. Carla mentioned that she had a friend who agreed to swap a shift with her, but the manager didn’t agree to that either.
Carla later said, “I wasn’t blind. I could see who was working when I went to the mall with friends or shop with my friends. They did not look like me in terms of the color of their skin. TheyThey were white, and still young like me. But they weren’t. Black. They were not Latino. They were not Asian.” A friend later suggested that she wasn’t being scheduled in the morning because she was black.
AnthonyAnother former employee shared his experience with the fashion company. As per the show, he was told they couldn’t hire him because there were already too many FilipinosWorking in the store HoweverThey never learned that he was actually gay. Filipino. In a 2003 interview, he said, “TheGreeters and those who worked in the in-season clothes, most of which were white, were also white. TheMost people who worked in the stockroom where nobody sees them were employed. Asian-American, Filipino, Mexican, Latino.”
In June 2003, Anthony, Carla, JenniferThey were part of a lawsuit brought against them by other minority employees. Abercrombie & FitchDiscrimination based on sex and race TheCompany was then required to pay $40 Million to the plaintiffs and legal fees. Abercrombie & FitchThen, they agreed to hire diversity recruiters. ItI was also asked to change recruitment, which mainly targeted fraternities of white sexes. InIn the same vein, the settlement demanded a change in its advertising which mainly featured white models.
